Womens Watch, Wood watch, Jord Wood Watch

I am sure everyone has seen all the amazing things people are making out of wood- watches, rings, sunglasses, ect. I have become obsessed with the beauty of these items and how different they are.  Each item is a little different from the grains in the wood.  Not only is the watch gorgeous but even the box that holds and protects the watch is gorgeous.  I love to have it out on my dresser to show off because of its beauty.

Olivia often wants to copy me in things as well- she sees that I love this watch and wear it all the time so she has started to steal it off the dresser and wear it for herself.  Look how cute my little copycat is below & how gorgeous this watch is with the pop of turquoise.

Mom and Tot Box

Momandtot monthly subscription

Hey I have mentioned before that I am obsessed with monthly subscriptions and so here is another one. Mom’n’Tot Box

There is just something about always getting happy mail and it being amazing that makes it that much more fun.  I think Olivia must agree because her face is priceless when opening up her box this month.

Momandtot monthly subscription

What is fun about this box “which the name says it all” It has something in there for your baby or toddler as well as for yourself.  We all like to get presents at times.

This month we got a wooden toy camera, non toxic crayons made from beeswax, a first aid kit that fits into the diaper bag, nail polish for me, and little shorts for Olivia.

That is a lot of things in 1 box.

Momandtot monthly subscription

You can tell by her facial expressions she was thrilled.

Momandtot monthly subscription

Her favorite things are obviously the crayons and the wooden toy camera.  She thought it was so funny to see me hold it up and look through the hole.  I kept showing her that she now has a camera just like mommy does.  My favorite items are her new cute blue and white polka dot shorts (perfect for summer), the first aid kit (I am one of those over prepared people so this was perfect to have it all in a hardshell case, and of course my nail polish. It was a gorgeous light purple- also perfect for summertime nails.

Olivia loved the items so much that she insisted on bringing them outside with us to color.  She was also caught chewing on them which made me feel at ease knowing they are safe for her.

Bookroo monthly subscription

baby board book

I have a passion for reading. Growing up I loved coming home, grabbing a great book, cuddled up on the couch and seeing my dad on the other couch doing the same. I also loved discussing the books we were reading.  I wanted this love for reading so bad for my daughter so I was thrilled when I would catch her playing quietly in her room flipping through a book.  She will bring me books, sit on my lap and point at things while turning the pages.

Something else that I also love are subscriptions. Seriously, I was signed up for a monthly 3- bow headband subscription, weekly meals from Blue Apron, toys subscription, diapers, magazines, you name it.

So when I found a monthly subscription of books for my daughter I was thrilled.

I can honestly say that one of our favorite books has come from the Bookroo monthly subscription too.

The Biggest Kiss by Joanna Walsh & Judi Abbot she thinks it is so funny to give me kisses throughout the book. What more could I ask for.

Olivia has so many books but I had never heard of this one.  It is her favorite book and mine as well.  She will honestly give me kisses throughout the whole book and I have noticed that she will continue giving me more kisses throughout the day.

One of my favorite quotes is “I do believe something magical can happen when you read a book” J. K. Rowling

I love seeing that Olivia sees the magic in books already and I hope to continue that love.  Having a monthly subscription from Bookroo will help to continue her love for reading.

Cariloha Bamboo Bedding

cat in the bed, cariloha sheets, bamboo bedding

My husband and I have been in our home for almost 4 years.  It is an older home & we love it for it’s character & charm. It needs a lot of updating so we have been getting bids therefore so many people have come into our home & even asked us if we just moved in.  We always thought that we would get to the remodel sooner so we had avoided decorating, buying new furniture, & being actual adults, just living with our mix matched things.  It’s embarrassing explaining to people that nope we have been here for quite a while but have been living like 19 year old college students.

Anyways one thing that needed major updating was our bedding. I’m almost embarrassed to say this but I know my bedding followed me from pre-college days. It was old, outdated, and wasn’t very comfortable.  The white sheets were looking grey and yellow.  I thought that one of the first things we needed to invest in was some adult bedding. I have always been curious about this trend of bamboo clothing, beddings, just anything bamboo. (We have even been looking into bamboo flooring).

Honestly I can now say I know why everyone is talking about it.  The first day I took the sheets out & washed them I couldn’t believe the difference in feel once pulled out of the dryer.  They were so soft.  I even made my mom come in and feel how soft they were when she came to visit.  I’ve also noticed that I seem to sleep more comfortable with them.  You know how sometimes you can get too hot or too cold during the night, I seem to keep a good neutral temperature while using these sheets.

I use to travel a ton (pre-baby) & I felt like I was sleeping in an expensive hotels bed.  You know the feeling, soft, fluffy, & you don’t want to leave.

If your shopping around for new bedding I highly recommend going the eco-friendly route & getting bamboo sheets & better yet check out Cariloha sheets.  You, your partner, & your pets wont regret it.

Small Shop Saturday:: Little and Mighty

Little & Mighty The Pear Onesie, Small Shop, Blogging Community, motherhood, baby onesie, Instagram small shop, mom blogger

I love to support small shops & started to realize a lot of other people do to. So I thought I would start sharing some of my favorite small shops with you all.

Little & Mighty

One thing that I love about this small shop is they not sell clothing but they want to be apart of the parenting community.  They have a great blog expanded off of their shop where they bring the community together with advice, other parents stories and even feature little and mighty children.  I love being apart of something and that is one thing I love about social media. I don’t have a lot of friends that are in the same spot of life as me– as in starting a family and sometimes you have to turn to people for advice and support. I have found that with social media and small shops just like this.

How To.. Heatless Curls with Savvy Curls

Savvy Curls, heatless curls, easy heatless curls, no heat curls, tutorial, how to curl hair

How to curl your hair easily without heat. These are all things I love to hear.

If you know me at all you know I am hair & makeup challenged. I have always been somewhat of a Tomboy growing up, having 3 older brothers right above me.  My mom was never into hair and makeup so my sister and I weren’t really taught much in that department.  When I use to curl my hair it would honestly take me hours and it still didn’t look good. I don’t know why it has always been so difficult for me. I’m thinking I must not be the only one though with so many curling hair tutorials and how to’s on youtube. (let’s hope I’m not the only one).

Since I am beauty challenged and a new mom the top knot has been my hairstyle for more than a year now.  I’ve been wanting to change this so I have attempted tying socks on my head (flashbacks to pink curlers at night), the sock bun, twisting my hair & braids.  Nothing was working and then I found Savvy Curls.

So what is Savvy Curls?

It’s a “heat insulating material & curl forming material” that uses the heat from our scalp to produce beautiful curls.

How to use Savvy Curls:

They have instructions inside the package but I am more of a visual person so I watched their tutorials on their website.

I washed my hair & let it air dry for a couple of hours, my hair is pretty thick. After it was dry I applied mouse all over my head.  I put the savvy curls on top of my hair.

^BEFORE^

^AFTER^

Savvy Curls, heatless curls, easy heatless curls, no heat curls, tutorial, how to curl hair

I then wrapped my hair in about 1 inch sections around the Savvy Curl and pulled through.  Once pulled through I combined that piece with about an inch more of hair and continued to wrap about the Savvy Curl.

Once you get to the end you leave out the last piece after wrapped once.  You move onto the other side and repeat.  Once you reach the end of that side you will combined the two ends and wrap until all wrapped around the Savvy Curler. You will then  hold the ends with bobby pins.

After a few hours of wearing, sleeping, or a whole day of wearing for a night out you will untwist your curls.

This is what it looked like after several hours of wearing around and taking a nap in it. Hey a mamas got to rest when the baby does.

Savvy Curls, heatless curls, easy heatless curls, no heat curls, tutorial, how to curl hair

Easy curls without damaging my hair.  One bonus of never being able to do my hair growing up is my stylists always compliment me on my gorgeous healthy hair. Now I can style my hair and still keep the healthy locks.

Storybrook Cafe Playdate

I feel like the worst mom ever. I never attended mommy and me classes.  Olivia isn’t in gymnastics, swim, discovery classes, ect. According to standards now a days I have failed as a mother.  That’s why I jumped at the opportunity to meet up with some mamas at a new adorable play cafe. If you guys aren’t following Sandy @sandyalamode Blakely @eloiseandme or Makelle @makelleahlin on instagram you need to. They have beautiful pictures & are beautiful themselves inside & out.

Storybrook cafe has so much character and charm the moment you walk in.  They have an adorable set up with playhouses, puppet show, ball pit, the cutest little car for kids to ride, and that’s just the first level.  You walk upstairs and there is a cafe set up there.  I was able to check a few emails while Olivia was occupied by her lemon poppyseed muffin.

While upstairs we wanted a little bit more privacy so we escaped into a room with plenty more toys to play with and a comfy couch to lounge on. Olivia was very sick the week before and lets just say she was a little too attached to mommy so we had to have some alone time to warm up to the place.  It didn’t take long though with all the fun stuff to keep her occupied.  We ended up staying way longer than I thought we would. After grabbing some food we headed back downstairs & Olivia explored while I browsed through their little shop/boutique. They have the cutest baby clothes & accessories from small shops. I love supporting small handmade businesses & love places that support them as well.  While hanging out we met one of the owners. She told us her story of being a stay at home mom and wanting to work at a place where she could bring her child with her.  She and her business partner decided to open up this cute cafe for parents to be able to escape to and let their kids explore at the same time.  I love how places are being more kid friendly now.  With both parents working or bringing in an income we need places like this that we are able to catch up on a few emails while letting our children play.

Before packing up we headed outside to get some fresh air on the patio. I can’t wait for summertime but how nice will it be to sit back with a snack & drink, catch up on some work while Olivia gets to play.  I can honestly say that I will be returning back to Storybrook Cafe. Not only on a regular day but they have lots of fun activities on their schedule as well.  Reptile day, princess day, brunch with the Easter Bunny, and lots more.  Go check out their website and see what fun things they have planned for the future and if you’ve been thinking about visiting this place, stop hesitating because you wont regret it.

Winter Onederland

IMG_8367

OMG you guys, Olivia has turned one.

I can’t believe I have a one year old. This was very emotional for me and I don’t know if anyone else experienced this but I just couldn’t believe a year had already gone by since her birth. Time has just flown by and it makes me feel like I am missing so much of her growing up. The baby phase goes by so quickly, babies just grow and learn so much so fast.

I stressed so much about her birthday party. I know that her first birthday is all for me because she doesn’t care what happens or will even remember but I wanted to make sure it was perfect.  We live in an older home that we have planned to remodel for years now. Hey its an older home, lots of things have gone wrong with it so a lot of that budget has gone towards other things to fix. (quick story but we had a mama raccoon give birth in our chimney, it wasn’t pleasant)

Anyways… I was so stressed about everything looking perfect that weeks before the party I decided I had to paint the entire front rooms where the party was going to be so I rushed to home depot (while my husband was out of town) & stayed up all night for several days to paint the front rooms. I also wanted to surprise my husband. I knew if he was home he would probably talk me out of it.  I also wanted to prove to myself that I can be this amazing mom that can do it all like every other mom in this perfect world so I wanted to DIY most of the party. (I don’t know how you women do it, I killed myself & didn’t even get half the stuff done)

Thank goodness for PINTEREST. I wouldn’t have survived this party without it. I will post all the links to the tutorials for her party at the end. So here it is:

Why Hire a Birth Photographer

IMG_8204

I had written all about Olivia’s birth story about a year ago. It was a beautiful story but it was very personal to me. There might have been a few people that were interested in reading it but the more I read it the more I realized how important it was to me & pretty person. I am so glad I wrote it, it was a journal piece that I will treasure forever. But a whole year later and restarting up a blog I decided to talk about why you should hire a birth photographer.

I love photographs. To me nothing is better than a frozen piece of time Yes a lot of photos are staged but when you look at a photo it brings you right back to that very moment. People hire a photographer for huge moments in their lives. Since I am still under 5 years of this stage I will mention a moment that everyone thinks is the most important day of their lives, your wedding day. You take engagements, bridals, and the actual wedding by a professional photographer, this is a huge day and you want beautiful photos. You think this is the most important day of your life. Trust me up to this point it is, unless you have already become a parent. Becoming a parent trumps becoming a spouse any day, at least it did for me. So I looked at this moment as why not have a professional come in and capture moments of this special day that I can cherish forever.

This takes me to the first reason on my top 5 list why to hire a professional.

1. Biggest day of your life
Becoming a parent is a huge day in anyones life. Nothing will ever be the same after you become a parent. You hire a professional photographer for huge events happening in your life. You also hire a professional usually once a year to take photos for christmas/New Years cards and just so you have a photo of your entire family every year. Why wouldn’t you hire a professional to capture moments that change your life so drastically.

2. Moments you never saw

My photographer captured things that I never got to see with my own eyes.  My husband was next to me when we heard our beautiful little girls first cries.  I was focused on myself at the time, what I was feeling, what I was doing. I wasn’t caring to look around and see what my husband was experiencing.  But my photographer did.  She took several pictures of his reaction which was beautiful.  I have only seen my husband cry once before. I guess I technically didn’t see this one either but while looking at all the photos and seeing him wipe away tears was so beautiful to me. I didn’t know his reaction until the photographer told and showed me. I am so glad she captured it and I will forever cherish that photo. I think if I saw a photo of my father reacting the same way when I was born that photo would be cherished by me as well.

3. Moments you don’t want to forget

I’ve got complete mom brain. I thought it was bad when I was pregnant but a year after O’s birth and I realize this mom brain might be here to stay.  I have forgotten small things about that day that I thought I never would. How could you ever forget the best day of your life. Well you can and you do.  I love looking back at photos of that day and reliving it.  You don’t relive the painful stuff either ladies. Nature has a wonderful way of making you forget any of the pain so we want to redo this whole process over again.

4. Takes pressure off everyone

I take the photos in this family, not my husband. I know all families aren’t this way and there are a lot of you lucky ladies that have wonderful husbands that are amazing with the camera. We aren’t one of those families.  There was no way I was going to trust my husband to take beautiful photos of what was going on. Plus I wanted him in a lot of the photos as well.  I’ll refer back to reason #2–getting his reaction to the birth.  I also didn’t want a whole audience in the room while delivering.  Even if you do want a lot of people in there, how great is it to have someone there to capture everyone participating.  It took the pressure off family, my husband and me.  I just delivered a baby, I would have wanted to be up there taking photos of her getting weighed & measured.  There was no way I would have been able too. I was still in surgery myself. Yes I got stitches, yeah me. So there was no pressure for anyone to man up and take beautiful photos because I knew the photographer was already doing that.

5. Relax

All the reasons listed above will help you relax on this big day.  You don’t want to feel even more stressed than you already will be and maybe you wouldn’t. I personally would feel stressed if I didn’t capture certain moments. I’m already kicking myself about certain photos I didn’t take throughout her first year. Having a professional there to capture this beautiful moment helped me to relax.

First Days Home

Rose To Life, Michelle Moehle, Baby Photos, 4 days old photo

Is it just me or did anyone else miss being in the hospital after having a baby?

I was so ready to be home, or so I thought. Once getting home, alone with O and my husband I realized how much I missed having someone take care of me.  I had prepared a lot of frozen meals towards the end of my pregnancy so that I was more prepared for dinnertime. I don’t think my husband knew I had done that and since we left to the hospital in such a hurry the night she was born there wasn’t a meal defrosted enough to cook. We thought that we had a meal set up for us but it ended up falling through so my husband had to head out last minute to grab stuff.

I was starving and missed having options for my meals as well as having them bring it to me. I missed having someone coming in and checking on O and I. I also felt like I had to start doing things around the house.

Why is it that we can’t relax sometimes and just enjoy the moment? We always feel like we need to be doing more.

I am embarrassed to admit this part but the only benefit was I finally had a shower and felt so much more like myself. Ya I know, I am gross, but I didn’t want to shower at the hospital and that first day I was on bed rest anyways.  The shower did make me feel more human and helped some of the swelling of my body.

The part that scared me the most was that night my milk started to really come in.  Now I had heard that when your milk comes in it is really sore and hurts. But I had also heard that if you have extreme pain and heat radiating off your breasts that something might be wrong, infection, ect and you should get checked.

Well my breasts were radiating heat, they tripled in size, and I couldn’t even touch them. These descriptions only got worse over the next couple of days. I kept on telling myself, we are going to O’s appointment soon for her check up and I will ask then. I seriously thought that something was wrong though.  I am a pretty small breasted girl and these new boobies looked like porn star status.

I was nervous to take anything other then the medication the doctor had me taking already so I resorted to other things. Lets just say that ice packs, hot showers and these lansinoh soothie gel pads were my best friend. I would pop them in the fridge and let them cool and place them on.

Seriously no one can explain to you how much pain your boobs will be in once the milk comes in and there are times that your nipples hurt from the baby latching on. But once you get past it its the most rewarding experience. I love having my little bundle of joy cuddled up so close to me all the time, I love the convenience of having food on us at all times, and I love knowing that I’m giving her the best food I can, plus the money we saved from not having to buy formula was always a plus as well. I am not judging anyone that doesn’t breastfeed their babies. I know every mother does what is best for their baby and everyone has different circumstances and opinions. This is just my opinion and experience. What was your first few days like being home from the hospital? Did you miss being at the hospital at all?

Miss O was so tiny at her first pediatrician appointment, she was 6 lbs 2 oz & didn’t fit into any of her clothes. I didn’t fit into any of my clothes either. I had a very unrealistic view of what my body would look like afterwards. My husband was the one that had to remind me often that I just had a baby.
